Terms and Conditions

Welcome to Eight at a Table. By making an account, using eightatatable.com or coming to one of our events, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

1. Who can join

You must be 18 or older. Each account is for one person; please use your real name, keep your password to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has used your account.

2. Table Manners

Our Table Manners apply on the site and at the table: come curious, listen to understand, respect difference, keep trust, and no selling, recruiting or promoting. We may remove content, or end an account, that breaks them.

3. What you share

• Your recipes, stories, photos and comments stay yours. By posting them, you allow Eight at a Table to store them, show them to the people you choose with Who sees it, and include them in books and recipe cards that you or those members make for personal use.
• Share only what you have the right to share. Don't post copyrighted material, such as a cookbook's or website's text and photos copied word for word. Give credit where a recipe came from, with a link when there is one.
• Don't post anything unlawful, hateful, harassing or someone else's private information.
• Pictures of dishes may be made for you with AI. They show what a dish might look like, not a promise of how yours will turn out.

4. Recipes and food

Recipes are shared by members as they cook them, and come with no guarantee. Check ingredients for allergies and dietary needs, follow safe food handling and cooking temperatures, and use your own judgment.

5. Events

• Events are informal gatherings of adults. You choose to attend and take part at your own risk. Eight at a Table and its hosts aren't responsible for your safety, belongings, travel, food, drink or allergies, or for what other attendees say or do.
• Everyone pays their own way. Eight at a Table doesn't handle payments; any costs are between you and the venue.
• Please drink responsibly and arrange a safe ride home.
• If you can't come, cancel at least 24 hours ahead whenever you can, so someone else can take your seat. Hosts may remove anyone who makes the table unsafe or unwelcoming.
• A home address is shared only with the people signed up for that event; please keep it private.

6. The site

We're a small, volunteer-run community, and the site is offered as it is, in beta, without warranties. We'll try to keep it running and your recipes safe, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of errors. To the extent the law allows, Eight at a Table isn't liable for any indirect or incidental loss from using the site or attending events.

7. Leaving

You can stop using the site at any time and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms.

8. Changes

We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top and let members know about big changes; using the site after that means you accept them.
