Effective November 2, 2026. A working draft during our beta.
Eight at a Table ("we", "us") runs eightatatable.com, a site for sharing recipes and stories and for small in-person gatherings. This page explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. In short: we collect only what the site needs to work, we never sell your information, and we don't show ads.
What we collect
- Your account: your name, email address and password. Your password is stored scrambled (hashed), so nobody, including us, can read it.
- What you add: recipes, stories, notes, photos, comments, favorites, collections, the picture style you choose, and who you invited or who invited you.
- Messages you send us through the contact form or an account request.
- Security records: your IP address, kept briefly to limit failed sign-ins and repeated form posts.
Cookies
We use one cookie to keep you signed in, for up to a year on each device. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies, and we don't run analytics. The site's fonts come from Google Fonts, so your browser fetches them from Google, which sees your IP address when it does.
How we use it
- To run the site: show your recipes to the people you choose, keep your collections and favorites, and print the books and cards you ask for.
- To email you: your password link, invitations, notes about comments on your recipes, and (once events are on the site) your event sign-ups and reminders.
- To type up recipes and make pictures, the photos and text you upload may be processed by the AI services we use for that work.
Who can see what
Each recipe has a Who sees it setting: everyone with an account, only the people at some of your Chef's Tables, or only you. A recipe's story and family details can be kept to fewer people than the recipe itself. Your full name is shown to members; you can choose to show only your first name and last initial to people outside your Chef's Tables. Our administrators can see account details to run the site. On public pages like this one, we use first names and last initials only.
Sharing
We don't sell or rent your information, and we don't share it with advertisers. It is stored with our web host, and email is sent through our host's mail service. We would share information only if the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.
Keeping and deleting
We keep your information while you have an account. You can change your name and what others see in Settings, remove your photos, and ask us to delete your account and everything you've added; use the contact form. Printed books and cards that members already made can't be recalled.
Age
Eight at a Table is for adults 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger.
Changes and questions
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top and tell members about big changes. Questions or requests? Contact us.
